What Because of You is

Because of You turns messages from a person's friends, family and colleagues into one private keepsake. You invite the people who know someone to share a memory or a message, and the app gathers those stories into a digital gift they open online and keep as a PDF, for a birthday, an anniversary, a farewell or just to say thank you. Its own line is "Private by design. Written by people": the words come from real contributors, and AI helps organise the approved material rather than writing it.

There is a second product aimed at creators themselves, the Creator Mirror. An educator, newsletter writer or community host asks their audience what they remember about their work, and the responses become a Mirror. That gives the partner program two quite different stories to tell.

What a referral earns

The rate is 20% of the amount paid, after discounts and before sales tax, on a new customer's first eligible purchase. Your audience gets 10% off with your code, and every plan is a one-time purchase. Because of You publishes its own worked examples, which already include that 10% discount:

So a referral is worth roughly $7 to $18. That is modest per sale, which is normal for a consumer gift product, and it means the program rewards content that converts steadily rather than one big post.

First purchase only, and what is excluded

This is the clause that sets expectations. Commission is paid once, on a new customer's first Personal, Creator or Larger circle purchase. The terms exclude repeat purchases, free cards, sample projects, extra contributor places, your own purchases, refunded amounts and fraudulent transactions. Discounts do not stack, and simultaneous orders qualify for at most one first-purchase commission.

A customer who loves it and buys a second gift for someone else earns you nothing further. Plan around the first purchase, not a customer's lifetime.

Attribution: the code beats the link

You get a personal link and a creator code. A valid code entered in the app before checkout takes precedence over any saved link. Otherwise the last eligible creator link within 30 days of the click gets the credit, as long as the visitor allowed analytics and their browser kept the storage. Direct visits do not replace a saved referral, and only one creator can be paid for a purchase.

The practical takeaway is to always say your code out loud or show it on screen. Gift purchases often happen days later on a different device, for example after a family group chat decides who is organising the birthday. A link can lose track of that. A code does not.

Getting paid

Commissions are recorded after the payment is verified and held for at least 30 days. Approved balances are paid monthly in USD once they reach $25. Smaller balances carry forward without expiring, and if you leave the program your valid remaining earnings are settled after the hold even if they are below $25, which is more generous than most programs.

Refunds, disputes and errors are reconciled before approval. A reversal after a payout is deducted from future earnings. The terms do not name a payout method; they mention that your payment provider may charge receiving or currency conversion fees, so ask how you will be paid when you are accepted.

Applying, and the sample project

Every partnership is reviewed individually, it is free to join, and there is no minimum follower count. You need to be at least 18 and able to receive payment lawfully. The team reviews your public profiles, your audience and the experience you plan to share. If accepted, you receive written terms, your link and code, and access to one sample project, which is not commissionable.

The creator guide asks for something most programs do not: use the product properly before recommending it. For a gift, gather at least three approved stories. For a Creator Mirror, collect five responses. Then build the finished result and show it. That is extra effort, and it is also why the recommendations will be believable.

Paid content is separate

Because of You also commissions UGC. Production fees, deliverables, revisions, publication dates and usage periods are agreed before work starts, and a content fee is not conditional on sales unless your written brief says so. Affiliate commission is separate from that fee. You keep ownership of your content unless you agree otherwise, and paid advertising rights are negotiated on their own. An affiliate link does not guarantee a paid brief.

• Clear disclosure in the content and near the link. The guide even suggests wording: "Ad. I received free access and earn a commission if you buy with my code."
• No publishing codes on coupon sites.
• No bidding on the brand name without written agreement, no cookie stuffing, no spam and no impersonating the brand.
• No invented reviews, memories, outcomes, urgency or earnings claims. Speak from actual experience.
• Privacy is part of the rules. Get permission before showing anyone's messages, name, image or reaction, keep anonymous responses anonymous, and never publish private access links.

Who this suits

Creators who share family life, relationships, friendship and thoughtful gifting, where the content is a genuine story: organising a parent's 60th, a surprise for a partner, a farewell for a colleague. The product makes for emotional, filmable moments, which suits short-form video. The Creator Mirror side suits educators, newsletter writers and community hosts who want to show what their audience thinks of their work.

It suits you badly if you rely on coupon or deal traffic, which the terms rule out, or on paid search on the brand, or if you need recurring income, because each customer pays you once.
